Windows on ARM on Tegra
At MIX11 Microsoft previewed the next version of Internet Explorer 10 and released the first Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 10. During the keynote they demonstrated a variety of different IE10 demos, one of which was IE10 running on the next version of Windows which supports the ARM architecture. Of all the companies with ARM-based processor, whose did they pick?

"April 12, 2011 will stay remembered in the history of ARM community. During their own MIX 2011 conference, which is being held in Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, NV - Microsoft demonstrated Windows 8, their next-generation Operating System and Internet Explorer 10, their next generation browser - both running on an NVIDIA Tegra development platform."

You can take a look at the demo here: (https://live.visitmix.com/ timestamp 2:03:00).

NVIDIA Everywhere You Look at NAB 2011
From A to Z (ok, it's actually V, but you get the idea), at this year's National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) annual convention in Las Vegas, attendees are seeing NVIDIA Quadro GPU technology all over the show floor. Tons of industry leaders like 3ality, Adobe, ARRI, ASSIMILATE, Autodesk, Avid, Chyron, IRIDAS, Perceptive Pixel, Pixel Power, Quantel, Unreel and Vizrt have joined us at the show, displaying broadcast solutions powered by NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics technology.

"NVIDIA is Everywhere at NAB," and we truly are, "...cementing [NVIDIA's] place as a guiding force behind much of the production and broadcast business. With capabilities in the compositing, rendering, live editing, and routing spaces, it's really no surprise, but the sheer number of booths they are in at NAB is impressive."

There's also Adobe's launch of Creative Suite 5.5, including Premiere Pro CS5.5 , with improvements in CUDA processing and the Mercury Playback Engine, with a slew of new Quadro GPUs based on the NVIDIA Fermi architecture, including mobile, now supported.

Also, perhaps the most compelling and impressive demo in our booth has been Perceptive Pixel demonstrating its new Storyboard live presentation application featuring new TouchCast technology on LCD multi-touch systems. With Storyboard, a TV station can assemble on-air stories from an array of rich media content types and templates, including 3D motion graphics and up to 12 live HD video feeds, as well as live, interactive applications such as WSI MaxStorm and Google Earth. TouchCast technology seamlessly hosts other multi-touch interactive applications, including those running on external servers, and integrates them into a powerful, flexible, unified environment which leverages multiple NVIDIA Quadro 6000 GPUs and Quadro SDI capture cards to provide the best possible graphical touch experience.

Powering innovation in broadcast, film, and digital content creation-NVIDIA and our partners have been demonstrating it here this week at NAB for all to see. That results in a Best in Show Award for NVIDIA Quadro Cards with CUDA Technology.

3D On the Web Just Got Easier
This week NVIDIA became the first company to deliver a 3D video plug-in with support for active-shutter 3D glasses for the Microsoft Media Platform (MMP) Player Framework v2.5 (F.K..A. Silverlight Media Framework). NVIDIA 3D Vision video player technology is available for free to Web developers, so they can easily build websites for streaming high-quality 3D video to 3D Vision-equipped PCs.

In a statement, David Sayed, senior product manager at Microsoft, said, "with NVIDIA's new 3D video plug-in, developers can now take full advantage of the stereoscopic 3D video streaming support available in the latest version of Microsoft Media Platform Player Framework. Microsoft is delighted to work with Nvidia to deliver exciting functionality and capabilities to help developers build the next wave of websites powered by the Microsoft Media Platform."

The MPP Player Framework is open-source code that enables developers to quickly deploy robust, scalable, customizable media-player applications for the Web, based on Microsoft Silverlight and with full support for IIS Smooth Streaming and Microsoft PlayReady DRM.

NVIDIA also released a how-to-guide that outlines the key steps and additional components necessary for developers to integrate 3D streaming video capabilities into websites. The 3D video player plug-in and guide are available now at www.3DVisionLive.com/apps.

HTPC? NVIDIA's Got You Covered.
The Asrock Vision 3D HTPC is a cutting edge home theater PC set in a tiny form factor. Instead of the typical Intel Atom processor found in other pre-built HTPCs, the Asrock Vision 3D HTPC uses an Intel "Arrandale" mobile processor along with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M GPU.

"The Asrock Vision 3D HTPC is not only capable of 3D media playback with 7.1 HD audio support over HDMI 1.4a, but users can also enjoy media encoding and even 3D Vision video gameplay."

With over-500 games that are 3D Vision ready, that is a heck of a gaming console.

It's All About Developers
Smart companies know that compelling content drives hardware sales, so developers are key to success. Smart companies know that to be successful, you have to put real muscle in to developer relations for games and web applications. Arguably, no technology company puts more in to developer relations than we do. Now they have a new resource, because we just launched our remodeled Developer Zone!

Almost one year in the making, a few of the major improvements are:

  • Customized Developer Centers for our major developer segments (Game/Graphics, CUDA, Mobile, and Professional Graphics), including custom RSS feeds and "push" email notifications for news and blog posts
  • Several user interface improvements, including Cross-browser compatibility (even the iPhone!), drop-down menus, and a more visually-oriented organization of content
  • Easy one-stop-shopping in our Resources area that allow people to quickly find published documents, examples, and presentations

GPU Strong: Top-to-Bottom
The NVIDIA GeForce offering for desktop GPUs is strong in every segment. At the top, The GeForce GTX 590 offers lightning fast graphics, efficient power usage and quiet cooling.

"The NVIDIA dual GPU GeForce GTX 590 is the best overall AIB in every parameter we measured it. Compared to other dual GPU AIBs, and dual AIBs, It has the highest performance/watt, the highest performance/dollar, the lowest power consumption, the lowest noise, the biggest gain from overclocking, and the best Pmark, regular or over-clocked."

In the middle of the stack, the GeForce GTX 460 and 550 Ti are specifically designed for gamers and offer superior price / performance than competitive offerings for this segment.

"Pricing is still to be confirmed by AMD, though we expect it to be priced directly against the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti. Unfortunately that means that it's also priced directly against the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1GB edition. And that's a card that takes it to the cleaners for around the same sort of cash."

Drop a little further down and we still have the edge.

"First, the Radeon HD 6450 isn't a particularly good deal for the money. The GeForce GT 430 can be had for about $5 more right now, and it was faster overall across our test suite.."

And that was before we introduced our latest GPU, theGeForce GT 520. It is faster than the Radeon HD 6450 and offers ‘DirectX 11 Done Right' at the lowest cost yet for the desktop channel. It is a perfect upgrade from integrated graphics.

"The folks at NVIDIA have just released their new GeForce GT 520 consumer graphics card. Offering yet another leap in graphics performance, the GT 520 replaces their other low-cost GPU the DX11. Ideal for stereoscopic 3D, Blu-ray movies, photos and web, this consumer-friendly card is available immediately-and for around $60, you can pretty much double the graphics performance of your on-board chip. Talk about bang for your buck..."

GeForce. Strong. Top-to-bottom.
