NVIDIA nTeresting News - September 6, 2011

In this Issue:

  • GeForce GTX provides the best gaming experience around, and it is reflected in stories from Bit Tech and CPU Magazine.
  • The new Sony Tablets have Tegra 2 inside.
  • PC gaming is stronger than ever and the holiday titles haven't even started shipping yet.
  • NVIDIA's market share for Android is over one third.
  • GeForce GTX 580M SLI is breaking benchmark records again.
  • Tegra makes Audi cars sexier.
  • NVIDIA Project Maximus and Project Monterey get Best of Show for Siggraph.
  • Guild War 2 looks great in 3D.

Better Get GeForce
CPU Magazine asked 13 PC makers to send in their very best gaming rigs for their Dream PC Issue. Guess what they got?

"Graphics cards were all GeForce 500 Series with 12 systems relying on one or more GeForce GTX 580s."

Once again, Intel and NVIDIA proved to be the killer combo.

"Unusually, Intel and NVIDIA monopolized the CPUs and GPUs in this year's Dream PCs."

Same holds true across the pond, where BitTech put out their Buyer's Guide.

Another month, another buyer's guide from Bit-Tech.net, now the UK's biggest technology hardware website, and NVIDIA again completes a white wash of recommend graphics chip at every price point.

Nothing is faster than GeForce GTX.

"Hot Hardware said the dual GTX 580-packing card was "quite simply the fastest single graphics card we have ever tested, bar none." And everyone else seemed to agree."

GeForce GTX means the best gaming.

New Sony Tablets, They Have NVIDIA Guts
People love stuff with Sony guts. But Sony turned to NVIDIA for the guts of their new tablet.

"On the tablet front, Sony debuted the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P, both of which run Android Honeycomb and are based on an NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset."

PC Gaming, Still Strong
Pwnapalooza ‘11 is coming this Fall, and it means one thing: PC gaming is not dead.

Think console is king? Think again says Valve's big dog.

"We can never predict; I mean we just try to build good games and then we tend to be surprised. Portal 2 did better on the PC than it did on the consoles; Left 4 Dead did better on the consoles than it did on the PC."

The list of PC titles coming down the pipe this year is staggering: Call of Duty: MW3, Battlefield 3, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City, Diablo 3, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Rage, Assassin's Creed Revelations and NDOTA2.

Android-a-Plenty
Thanks to the success of our Tegra superchips, NVIDIA is gaining market share.

"NVIDIA topped with 34.4 percent unit volume share in Q1 2011, thanks to NVIDIA's first-mover advantage with the dual-core Cortex-A9 processors and Honeycomb Android design-wins."

That is a good start.

"Chip Designer NVIDIA has managed to gain a third of the Android tablet market, according to analyst outfit Strategy Analytics. NVIDIA has scored several production wins with its Tegra 2 chip, appearing in Motorola's Xoom, Samsung's Galaxy Tab, Dell's Streak 7, LG's Optimus Pad and Asus' Eee Pad Transformer."

It can also be found in some of the coolest Superphones around.

Fastest. Notebook. Ever
Laptop Magazine said it, not me. And they see them all.

"Take the most powerful NVIDIA GPU on the market. Now take another. That's what Alienware put inside our M18x: two GeForce GTX 580Ms, each with 2GB of video memory. What that translates to is the highest gaming scores we've seenfrom a laptop."

You can believe AMD's claims on Facebook, or you can believe Laptop Magazine.

Audi and NVIDIA
The next car you get may have NVIDIA guts, too. NVIDIA processors deliver game-changing features and performance to transform infotainment, digital instrument clusters and driver assistance for some of the sexiest cars around.

"The Audi A7 is one of a number of Audis that actually has a named tech company behind its driver information system, NVIDIA, and it is the best blend of automobile and technology I've seen so far."

NVIDIA is working with several automakers to make your next car cooler. OK, they'll be safer, too, but we are really in to cooler.

Quadro: Best of Show
Computer Graphics World has named NVIDIA "Project Maximus" and "Project Monterey" technology demos at SIGGRAPH earlier this month Best of Show for Siggraph this year

"As expected, there were a number of impressive technologies at the show, so selecting the CGW Silver Edge Award winners was certainly challenging. Yet, there were some offerings that stood out from the rest as having the potential of greatly impacting our industry now and in the future. These have been selected as winners of the Computer Graphics World Silver Edge Awards for what the editors deem to have been the best of show."

Project Maximus maximizes productivity by combining Quadro and Tesla products in a manner that uses the strength of each more efficiently. Project Monterey puts professional graphics horsepower in the cloud.

Gaming is Better In 3D
Just ask the creators of Guild Wars 2.

"It truly looks better on that format [3D Vision] than anything else"

They think Guild War fans will eat it up.

"We think the 3D setup is a pretty awesome way to play Guild Wars 2. We have a lot of huge boss battles, these giant bosses, and when you get them on this 3D screen and they look like they're coming straight towards you, it is really fantastic. People absolutely go bananas over it in 3D."

And if you looking to make the switch to 3D, Viewsonic's new monitor may be your ticket. The new ViewSonic V3D245 3D Vision monitor is out and press love it.

"In conclusion, I found the ViewSonic V3D245 to be a top-notch monitor for 3D gaming and multimedia."
