CES 2012: In-Win K1 HTPC and XFrame Cases DisplayedThe International CES is a typical place for companies to unveil new products to the world. Literally anything you can think of that is related in some fashion to the consumer electronics industry can be found at CES. One of the companies that has announced new designs at CES 2012 is In-Win, a computer chassis manufacturer that has been in the business since 1985. Follow us inside as we give you a run down of three new case designs that In-Win has unveiled at CES 2012. K1 Mini-ITX HTPC CaseThe first case debuted by In-Win at CES 2012 is a mini-ITX HTPC case; the K1. Its a really tiny case that's just under 2" tall. The K1 actually looks a lot like a DVD player that you would find sitting on your entertainment center. In fact, with the slim optical drive bay in front, the K1 could really replace your DVD or Blu-Ray player. Other features of the K1 include 4 USB ports on the front, along with and HD audio port. The USB ports are only USB 2.0, unfortunately. The K1 also uses an external power supply to save on space inside the case. One of the most interesting features of the K1 is the possibility to add on VESA mount for an LCD monitor or TV from 19" to 27". In fact, you can even add a dual-screen mount for smaller screens.
New Unnamed Full Tower CaseUp next on the docket is a new Full Tower Case design by In-Win. As of yet, this new case design remains unnamed, but it comes in two slightly different flavors. The cases are identical on the inside, but the front panels of each are a little different. The first case has a white front panel with straight, square-edged design features. There is plenty of space for front-panel additions through the 5.25" drive bays. The front of the white case has a grill that almost makes it look like a football helmet.
The second design for this new full tower case is a black design that is a little sleeker and more shapely than the first. The grill, located in the same place as on the white case, looks a little more like a ninja mask than a football helmet on the black case.
The interior of the case looks roomy, with plenty of meshed coverings for good airflow and a lot of cable management space. The XFrameMy personal favorite of the case designs showcased by In-Win at CES 2012 is the XFrame.
The name is pretty obvious, as you can tell from the look of the case. The reason I like it so much is that it is a test-bench style exoskeletal case. Its open to the air, which means no airflow issues, and its designed for easy swapping of parts. The X-Framed handle bars can be removed for easier access to the motherboard tray, which can also be completely removed with ease. There is plenty of extra hardware for fitting in your devices and the possibilities for expansion are really limitless. I can't wait to get my hands on this case for an in-depth review.
