There are many monitors in this price range and this is going head-to-head with the Samsung 226BW. Evaluation of this monitor is as follows:
The original monitor which was purchased was the Samsung 226BW with the A panel. I was astonished when it was received. The looks and the rated 2ms response time was phenomenal. Although there were many problems relating to this. First in Counter Strike: Source, my favourite game, surprisingly there was alot of ghosting. When grenades were thrown there was a light blue/green trail 4mm behind it as it flew through the air. Originally i thought the monitor had to be worked in, but alas it did not go away. The backlight bleeding on that monitor was also horrid. It was replaced the next day with the same LCD except it was the S panel, which was known to be better.
The problems still persisted yet they were even worse. Replaced that with this $50 cheaper LG 22" monitor, which has been working almost flawlessly until today. There is veyr littly to no backlight bleeding, and there are no signs of any ghosting. Very high picture and video quality are apparent with this LCD.
One thing to note is that with the large resolution of this monitor, 1680x1050, a powerful video card is necessary to crank up the model and texture details without lagging.
One problem with this LCD however is that whenever a dark picture, or dark area in a game comes on, the LCD turns down its brightness so its almost impossible to see what is happening. I dont know if this is a power saving feature or what, but it is very annoying and hard to deal with.
LG L226WTQ-SF Conclusion
Overall, this has been a great monitor for me so far (knock on wood). Has been with my to many lans, and has gotten many ooh's and aww's. The 3000:1 contrast ratio is also a very nice bonus if youre really into color and picture quality. Although this and the Samsung both have 2ms Response time, this LCD does outshine that one for many reasons.
The first one purchased does not have any bleeding, color quality, dead pixels, unlike the 3 Samsungs that were returned. The frame has a more modest look to it rather than the Samsungs 'sex' apeal (does look very nice). All in all, if youre looking for a solid monitor with many advantages, look no further.
Pros:
Good colour Quality
Swivel stand
22" of viewing pleasure
LG with great Customer Service
Cons:
Expensive
Screen dims when dark images present
Single DVI, VGA. No Component
