Recycle Old Computers, Monitors and TVs for Free in June and JulyWaste Management Hosts Free E-Cycling Events in Eight Oregon CountiesWaste Management is hosting free e-cycling events in July to help Oregonians safely and conveniently recycle old desktop and laptop computers, monitors and TVs. The events are scheduled for eight locations: Gold Beach, Lakeview, Burns, John Day, Heppner, Moro, Madras, and Hood River. (Logo: https://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20090219/WMLOGO) Free e-cycling opportunities are especially important since Oregon law now prohibits disposing of electronics in garbage carts and at disposal sites. As of January, anyone who knowingly disposes of computers, monitors, or TVs may be fined by the state. "We know people want to recycle electronic waste responsibly and economically," said Chad Miller, a senior project manager for Waste Management's e-cycling services. "These events provide a convenient and cost-effective solution that protects the environment and allows materials to be recycled into new products." The July events are part of Oregon E-Cycles, a program implemented by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and financed by electronics manufacturers. Oregon E-Cycles allows individuals to recycle seven computers, monitors and/or TVs at a time, for free. Households, small businesses and small non-profits may recycle more than seven items free of charge. Oregon E-Cycles does not provide free recycling for keyboards, mice, speakers, printers, scanners or other types of electronics. For more information, visit https://www.oregonecycles.org/ or call 1-888-5-ECYCLE (1-888-532-9253). Free E-Cycling Events Hosted by Waste ManagementAll events will be held from 9am to 3 pm
Electronics collected at these events will be processed in an environmentally responsible manner at Waste Management facilities that are ISO 14001 and 9001 certified, protecting the local environment in those communities along with people handling the electronics. As a signatory to the Basel Action Network's Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship, Waste Management has also pledged to manage electronic waste in a safe and environmentally conscious manner and adhere to measures preventing the export of hazardous e-waste to developing countries.
