ASUS PA246Q ProArt Series LCD Monitor Introduced

ASUS today announced the PA246Q ProArt Series monitor, a 24-inch LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200 (16:10 aspect ratio) that features a P-IPS panel with wide color gamut, reproducing 98% of the Adobe RGB color space, and a 178° wide viewing angle. The PA246Q also comes with the ASUS-exclusive QuickFit Virtual Scale and a highly adjustable stand to enhance users' productivity. DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D and D-sub inputs are included for easy connection to multiple devices.

Color precision of the highest level

The P-IPS equipped PA246Q reproduces 98% of the Adobe RGB color space, allowing it to accurately display almost the entire color spectrum of a photograph taken with a DSLR camera. The monitor also comes with a sRGB mode so that images meant for display on web pages will be shown as intended. The PA246Q is capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors, which is sixty-four times more colors than most conventional displays. Each PA246Q is also calibrated to minimize the color difference to Delta E less than 5, guaranteeing industry-leading color accuracy.

QuickFit Virtual Scale - One-click away for realistic scale measuring

The ASUS exclusive QuickFit Virtual Scale provides real size document, photo and grid formats on top of open windows. It enables a real-sized preview of finished artwork with a simple press of a hotkey.

Overlay formats:
  • Document: A4, Letter,
  • Photo: 8"x10", 5"x7", 4"x6", 3"x5", 2"x2"
  • Grid: Alignment, Centimeters, Inches

Users can use it as a guide to quickly and accurately preview images and photo in real size on the screen without actually printing it; achieve high efficiency while saving the planet by using less paper.

DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI and D-sub connections allow for a wide range of products to be displayed on the PA246Q. Picture-in-picture multitasking capability also allows users to view images from different signals. Two built-in USB ports enables instant file sharing with USB storage, charging and syncing smart phones or other media devices, and a 7-in-1 media card reader allowing for a quick and easy transfer of photos taken from a DSLR camera.

All I'd like to know is:

Being that this new "professional" monitor sports a 1920X1200 resolution and a 16/10 aspect ratio, can it correctly display an image from a 1080P 'only' source 9 such as those produced from a gaming console like a PS3 or a BluRay player?

It has an HDMI port included, but is it good for anything other than a computer signal that can be adjusted to the native resolution?

Will a signal from a fixed resolution (1080P) source be stretched to fit ending up distorted or will it just leave a black bar on the upper and or lower edges displaying properly, without distortion?

Additionally, can it display any other 16/9 aspect ratio signals? 720P? If so, this would be the best, most versatile monitor available.

Like most other 1920x1200 monitors, this one will display 1920x1080p (letterbox edges at top and bottom). Also like most monitors, the resolution is able to be adjusted but it's best to use the native setting to avoid pixel skewing.
