Synology America Corporation today announced a new member to its impressive NAS server lineup - the DS408. The DS408 4- drive ultra-high performance SATA NAS Server offers up to 4TB capacity, up to 50MB/sec RAID 5 reads, and up to 30MB+/sec RAID 5 writes. The Synology DS408/DS508/RS408 NAS Servers have the distinction of being the fastest non-PC RAID 5 NAS Servers available. In addition to blazing fast performance, the new models offers green design with 8W CPU power consumption, compared with about 80W CPU power consumption for a typical PC server, and are well suited for SMB and corporate workgroup installations. Synology created an entirely new NAS experience with is Disk Station Manager 2.0 NAS management software, released earlier this year, and now Synology is improving Disk Station Manger yet again with the release of its September Update. This new firmware update, which will be available as an electronic download free of charge to owners of existing Synology NAS Servers offers these new features that enhance reliability and usability:
• RAID 6 Support - RAID 6 is now supported with 4-drive and 5-drive Synology NAS Servers and offers the ultimate in reliability. Up to 2 drives in the NAS Server can fail without data loss with RAID 6 enabled. "Synology once again protects our customer's investment in a Synology NAS Server" said Cheen Liao, President of Synology America Corp. "We continue to add new features that enhance the functionality of our NAS Servers with Disk Station Manager and offer them free of charge, something most manufacturers charge users for" Mr. Liao added.
