ROCCAT Supports Community Driver ProjectProfessional Gaming Hardware - With LinuxThose looking for Linux-compatible professional gaming hardware should take a look at Hamburg-based gaming peripherals manufacturer ROCCAT. In close cooperation with ROCCAT, Stefan Achatz from Freising has been coding Linux drivers for almost every ROCCAT product since 2008. The Linux gaming community continues to see steady growth. Worldwide, the proportion of desktop computers running the operating system amounts to 5%. Thanks to ever-easier to install distributions, Linux has become more accessible for casual PC users. The increase in market share has lead to Linux becoming a more interesting platform for hardware and software developers. ROCCAT is one of only two manufacturers who code their own drivers. Since the focus is on Windows, ROCCAT supports an active Linux community. "We are very pleased to have such a committed developer" says René Korte, ROCCAT CEO and Founder, "we place great emphasis on software, as it is the basis for many of our products' innovative features. The demand for Linux-compatible professional gaming hardware is rising in line with the number of high-quality games being released for the operating system. Gaming giant Valve has recently signaled a move towards Linux compatibility, with its well-known Steam platform now running an open beta for the operating system. Available to Linux users is the first-person shooter Team Fortress 2. It is expected that further major titles will follow.
