NVIDIA nTeresting News 11 November 2011In this Issue:
Tegra 3 Has Officially Arrived What used to be known as Project Kal-El, is now known as Tegra 3 - the world's first quad-core mobile processor for tablets and super phones. It is the shizzle. "This is what we've all been waiting for , and the Tegra 3 is the game changer. Nothing in the mobile space comes close to this." It brings with it great battery life and killer performance capabilities. "With 5x better performance than that of Tegra 2, 3x better GPU performance, low power consumption, the new Tegra 3 almost qualifies as a PC processor." It also has a low-power, fifth core. "NVIDIA's fifth core is ingenious. It seems like NVIDIA is keeping consumers on their toes and competitors on their heels." We partnered with ASUS to hard launch the Transformer Prime tablet with Tegra 3 - a rarity in the mobile space, where processors are routinely announced up to two years ahead of time with no consumer devices in sight. "So you can see, ASUS didn't just stop at safe - they stopped at extraordinary." To help explain the benefits that Tegra 3 can bring we released several videos - including Glowball Part II! When it was all said and done Tegra 3 certainly impressed. "This is what we've all been waiting for, and the Tegra 3 is the game changer. Nothing in the mobile space comes close to this." GeForce GTX Best for BF3 Battlefield 3 fever is in high gear, with 5 million copies sold in the first week. So naturally people want to know how to best experience it. When you look at PC vs console, the answer is pretty cut and dry. "The real problem is that the issue has been severely misinterpreted. It's been correctly assumed that the PC version will be the "main," "better" version and that the console version will be inferior. From this, however, it's been deduced that Battlefield 3 on the consoles will be rubbish." So if you get the "better" version, what do you need in your PC to make the "better" even better? NVIDIA delivers better antialiasing performance, for the smooth lines that make your picture cleaner clearer, so you can spot the snipers. "When we started testing on our own it became apparent why AMD did this. With MSAA enabled the performance sharply declines with Radeon boards and previous generation NVIDIA products make AMD's current generation hardware look foolish." But does AA really matter? Ask they guys that made the game what they think. "It makes a lot of sense to support both [FXAA and MSAA] at the same time for the ultimate quality." Johan Andersson, Rendering Architect at DICE It seems that with Battlefield 3, the more horsepower the better. "The GeForce GTX 580 made all the difference. DirectX 11 really prioritizes the rendering and lightens the load. Things further out are not as detailed as what is directly in front of you allowing you to play flawlessly on the Ultra setting with a minimum of 60 FPS during the times of the most graphical stress." And like any new title, driver support is critical. "NVIDIA drivers give their cards the edge." If you got Battlefield 3, you better Gear Up with GeForce GTX. Ba-ba-baba- baba-ba-ba BatCard! We are pumped for the new Batman game, called Batman: Arkham City. It supports PhysX and looks stunning in 3D. Batman: Arkham City is hitting mid-November, and we're offering a special bundle for gamers that want to gear up for the Caped Crusader's latest adventures. It will be better on GeForce GTX. Upping the ante, EVGA made news with a Batman: Arkham City themed card. "The special edition graphics card is essentially a GTX 580 Superclocked GPU with Batman artwork plastered on the heatsink assembly. In other words, this is a fierce videocard, both inside and out. It has a core clockspeed of 797MHz, shader clockspeed of 1594MHz, and 1.5GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 4050MHz (effective) on a 384-bit bus." If you are stuck with Intel graphics, you better gear up. "The graphics part of these reviews is starting to sound like a broken record. The Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics is fine for local and streaming HD video, but isn't going to cut it when you want to fire up that new Batman: Arkham City." We are looking forward to the continued flood of killer titles like Batman: Arkham City, Diablo 3, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Assassin's Creed Revelations, L.A. Noire and DotA2. GeForce LAN Mods GeForce LAN 6 was 48 hours of fraggin' fun. "This event was cool for a lot of reason, but one of the main reasons was the setting: This LAN took place aboard the USS Hornet, a decommissioned Essex-class aircraft carrier commissioned in 1943." Part of the fun was a case mod completion. CPU magazine covered it in detail, complete with pics. New Metro Coming! The follow-up to the hit Metro 2033 is in the works. The developer spent some time talking tech with PC Games Hardware in Germany. Among the topics was 3D Vision support. "As you probably know, 2033 shipped already supporting NVIDIA 3D Stereo. And it was the only game of that time which was designed with 3D in mind resulting in highest possible "3D Vision Ready" status. Last Light improved and tuned 3D perception to new levels. We believe that it will be in a class of its own (smile)." Here is hopping Metro Last Light sets a new bar for 3D. L.A. Noire, 3D to the Max Rock Star is calling the PC version of L.A. Noire the ‘complete' edition. I think it is because the PC version is what the console version should have been- with better graphics, all the DLC and NVIDIA 3D Vision support. "LA Noire PC is undoubtedly the best game version, wither you are equipped with a 3D Vision system or not. If you are a neo-convert to this technology, this is one of the first games to try, along with Batman for the PC of course...." See it in all of it's the splendor in this screenshot gallery on 3D Vision Live.
