Nikon COOLPIX AW110/AW110s Digital Compact Camera ReleasedAn outdoor camera built for strength and durability with waterproofing to a depth of 18 m and advanced shooting support functionsNikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the AW110 and AW110s, two new cameras designed for shooting in everyday situations and outdoors with the toughness such situations demand and a variety of convenient support functions. The AW110 and AW110s are the successors to Nikon's first tough, waterproof, and cold-proof COOLPIX AW100 and AW100s. These two new cameras have been improved to support shooting in all types of outdoor situations. In addition to the latest camera features, including a 5x optical zoom NIKKOR lens, a backside illumination CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of 16.0-million pixels, and built-in Wi-Fi® support, these cameras are tough enough to stand up to use in the most severe outdoor situations with waterproofing to a depth of 18 m for use while diving, shock-proofing that allows the cameras to withstand falls from up to approximately 2 m, and cold-proofing to approximately -10°C. They are also equipped with a variety of functions that support an active outdoor life, including an altimeter, depth gauge, and atmospheric pressure that can be displayed in the camera monitor and recorded with image data, built-in GPS, and a bright and clear 3-inch OLED monitor that is easy to see even outdoors on sunny days.
The tough AW110 and AW110s are uniquely designed not only for the durability required for outdoor use, but also to be very fashionable for everyday use around town. They are available in five attractive colors, including a camouflage pattern and a new silver, to suit a wide variety of personal preferences. COOLPIX AW110/AW110s Primary Features
1.Increased toughness
*Open water diving. The AW110 and AW110s have inherited Action Control operation introduced with the COOLPIX AW100/AW100s. This feature allows you to choose a shooting mode and apply a variety of camera settings by simply pressing the large action button on the side of the camera and then shaking the camera. This function allows users to control the camera without removing gloves worn while skiing, hiking, or diving. Underwater scene mode When Underwater scene mode is selected, white balance is automatically adjusted to prevent greens and blues from being too strong as frequently happens with underwater shooting. When Easy Auto mode is enabled, the camera automatically switches to Underwater scene mode when the camera is lowered into the water. Altimeter/depth gauge/atmospheric pressure display and recording with image data*1 with altitude and water depth log functions The cameras are equipped with altimeter, water depth*2, and atmospheric pressure gauges shown in the live view display. Scales fluctuate in real time as altitude and water depth change. What's more, images with various data, including altitude and water depth, as well as shooting location, can be created, allowing users to readily identify the altitude, water depth, or place at which photos were taken. Further, as the cameras are equipped with altitude and water depth log functions, the altitude/water depth information from initiation of the log function until it is terminated can be displayed as a graph. GPS that supports POI display*1, electronic compass, built-in map display*1 The high-performance GPS chip and electronic compass built into the cameras records information such as position and the direction in which the camera is pointing with shooting, all of which can be viewed on a world map*1 displayed in the camera monitor. This allows users to add information regarding the place where photos were taken, as well as camera bearing, to image data for quick reference when viewing photos taken while engaging in an outdoor hobby or in leisure time later. In addition, a new function that allows GPS information to be deleted has been added.
*Map and Point of interest (POI) information current as of April 2012.
4.Superior basic performance The AW110 and AW110s are equipped with a 5x optical zoom NIKKOR lens offering superior image quality. With a nearest focusing distance of approximately 1 cm, users can get right up to their subjects for macro photography. A backside illumination CMOS image sensor with an effective pixel count of 16.0-million pixels and a lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) function The cameras are equipped with a backside illumination CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of 16.0-million pixels. This image sensor gathers light more efficiently and offers superior high-speed processing performance. They are also equipped with a lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) function that enables beautiful rendering, even with shooting in outdoor situations in which camera shake often results in blurred photos.
5.Wi-Fi® capability for simple and immediate sharing of high-quality photos and movies via social networking sites
*The Wireless Mobile Utility app must first be installed on the smart device (the app can be downloaded free of charge from the smart device's app store).
7.Design and color options suited not only to outdoor use, but also everyday use in town
