MSI MS-92C1 SSI Blade Server Wins #2 World's Fastest Supercomputer
In the newest top 500 list of fastest supercomputers, which is formally presented at the ISC'10 Conference in Hamburg, Germany, Dawning's Nebulae surpassed Germany and Japan to become the world's No. 2 fastest supercomputers by standard testing. No. 1 is hold by Jaguar, which is developed by American famous supercomputer company Cray. Nebulae is the same system as MSI's MS-92C1, which is co-developed, manufactured, and produced by Dawning and MSI, won the spot with a Linpack performance of 1.271 PFlop/s. The advantages of MS-92C1 include supporting open standards, pervasive and ubiquitous, RAS, lower TCO, high efficiency, and flexibility.
Support Open Standards
By achieving the SSI standards, MS-92C1 is able to support the growth of the SSI ECO system, creating benefits at all levels of industry, such as reduced manufacturing cost, reduced engineering cost, faster time-to-market, and enabling innovation, that results a true win-win situation.
Pervasive and Ubiquitous: Exceptional for Cloud Computing
MS-92C1 can be used in universal scenarios that require tremendous computing performance, such as Cloud Computing. Cloud computing is the extreme representation of virtualization application today. With MS-92C1 on the backbone of the infrastructure, administrators no longer need to worry about constant update on individual computers, which can reduce the cost and provide more flexibility and mobility.
RAS: Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability
One of the major emphases for server is the ability to provide uninterrupted services. MS-92C1 can help avoid and detect faults if there is corruption or report the corruption on the timely basis. Also, with the multiple components redundant design, administrators can hot-plug each individual server if it is down and the service will not discontinue at all.
Lower TCO (Total Cost Ownership)
With the maximum of 10 compute nodes supported, administrators can decide the appropriate modules and quantity based on their needs, so no more unnecessary spending is needed. It can also be easily upgraded in the future if the need arises. MS-92C1 also features user friendly management software, which can easily help manage the system and reduce the maintenance cost in the long run. If any failure occurs, it will automatically report to the administrator without any delay to reduce the possibility of down time.
High Efficiency: Save Cost, Save Environment
In each single compute node, MS-92C1 supports up to 2x Intel Six Core 95W Xeon processors and 12x DDR3 1333MHz Registered & Unbuffered Memory for the ultra performance. That's total 20 processors and 120 memories inside a single integrated system! It can dynamically adjust the computing power for each compute node, so it can achieve the highest power efficiency. It also provides better cooling technology to reduce electricity bills, also help protect the environment.
Flexibility
MS-92C1 has variety of optional modules, includes 10 compute nodes, 10 IO blades, 1 QDR Infiniband switch module or 2 DDR Infiniband switch modules, 4 Gigabit Ethernet switch modules, 2 CMM modules, 4 power supply modules, and 4 system fan modules. Companies can flexibly configure the modules based on their specific application requirements, so everything they get is exactly what they need.
