BAPCo MobileMark 2012 Benchmark Suite Released

The latest version of the premier performance-qualified battery life benchmark for notebook PCs.

MobileMark 2012, the latest version of the premier performance-qualified battery life metric based on real world applications was released today by the Business Application Performance Corporation (BAPCo®), a non-profit consortium of leading computing industry companies.

MobileMark 2012 extends the BAPCo benchmark family, alongside SYSmark® and EEcoMark®, which has been widely accepted by IT Managers, PC OEMs, press and analysts worldwide. It provides commercial and government IT decision makers, retailers, media, channel buyers, consultants, component designers, hardware designers, and manufacturers an objective, easy-to-use tool to evaluate the performance-qualified battery life of notebook PCs across the wide range of activities that a user may encounter.

MobileMark 2012 is an application-based benchmark that reflects usage patterns of business users in the areas of office productivity, media creation and media consumption. Unlike benchmarks that only measure battery life, MobileMark 2012 measures battery life and performance simultaneously, showing how well a system design addresses the inherent tradeoffs between performance and power management.

The new version features numerous new real world applications, updated workloads and integrated wireless connectivity. It also features a new built-in system configuration tool to simplify setup and a revamped heads-up display that shows projected battery life, projected performance and test status.

Unlike synthetic benchmarks, which artificially drive components to peak capacity or attempt to deduce performance using a static simulation of application behavior, MobileMark 2012 uses real applications, user workloads and data sets in an effort to more closely reflect the battery life a user might expect when performing similar workloads. For these reasons and more, MobileMark is the defacto standard for PC OEMs, hardware and software developers, IT departments, system integrators, publishers and testing labs as well as information technologists and computer industry analysts.

MobileMark 2012 builds upon BAPCo's 20-year history of building benchmarks to evaluate platform technologies. Benchmarks designed by BAPCo are the result of cooperative development between companies representing the breadth of the computing industry. They harness a consortium of knowledge to better reflect the computing trends of today and tomorrow.

Top Ten Reasons to Upgrade to MobileMark 2012

1. Application based benchmarking: - reflects usage patterns of business users in the areas of office productivity and media creation, featuring 15 real world and 64-bit native versions (where available) of applications such as Microsoft® Office 2010. Unlike synthetic benchmarks, application benchmarking does not artificially drive components to peak capacity or attempt to deduce performance using a static simulation of application behavior.

2. Battery life and performance: MobileMark 2012 measures battery life and performance simultaneously, showing how well a system design addresses the inherent tradeoffs between performance and power management.

3. Wireless connectivity: Wireless activity is embedded into the Office Productivity scenario just as wireless connectivity is essential to the mobile computing experience.

4. Screen brightness: Higher display brightness and support for screen dimming during periods of user inactivity.

5. Easy-to-use evaluation tool: Provides commercial and government IT decision makers, retailers, media, channel buyers, consultants, component designers, hardware designers, and manufacturers an objective, easy-to-use tool to evaluate the performance-qualified battery life of notebook PCs across the wide range of activities that a user may encounter.

6. New workloads: Updated user workloads and data sets to more closely reflect user expectations of battery life.

7. Simplified configuration and execution: New integrated tools such as the system configuration tool, which simplifies system setup, and the heads-up display, which shows estimated performance, battery life and test status during testing.

8. Better reporting: Exportable, easy to read PDF format formal disclosure reports (FDR) include battery health and charge level plotting.

9. Collaborative development: Benchmarks designed by BAPCo are the result of cooperative development between companies representing the breadth of the computing industry. They harness a consortium of knowledge to better reflect the computing trends of today and tomorrow.

10. 20-years of benchmarking experience - MobileMark 2012 builds upon BAPCo's 20-year history of building benchmarks to evaluate platform technologies.
